Listen to ‘The Walrus and the Whistleblower, Dr Surf, Killer Whales Australia and Dolphin Research Institute49:265 July 2020

We speak with Canadian film maker Nathalie Bibeau about her incredible new documentary ‘The Walrus and the Whistleblower’. Focusing on efforts of former trainer Phil Demers to draw attention to the treatment of captive marine mammals at Marine Land, Niagra Falls, and in particular a walrus named Smooshi, ‘The Walrus and the Whistleblower’ recently won the top award at Hot Docs and is premiering at the Melbourne Documentary film festival on now until July 15th.

Then, it’s been too long since we caught up with Dr Surf – he’ll join us to share some observations about surfing through COVID. He may even share a few simple tips on in water etiquette for those new to surfing.

And Dave Donnelly (Killer Whales Australia and Dolphin Research Institute) talks about last weekend’s disturbing behaviour by some people out on the water, resulting in the harassment of a critically endangered southern right whale and her new calf. Dave will also update us all on the Two Bays Whale Project.
