Multi-disciplinary artist, activist, and spoken-word icon Saul Williams sat down with Lauren to discuss his groundbreaking new project, Leap Life—his first solo album in over a decade.

It is nearly impossible to label Saul Williams. For three decades, he has shattered the boundaries between poetry, punk, hip-hop, and political resistance. A true modern Renaissance man, he effortlessly balances roles as a musician, poet, filmmaker, and actor—most recently earning critical acclaim as preacher Jebediah Moore in the film Sinners.

Throughout his career, Saul’s voice has been a force for political activism and systemic critique. With his new album Leap Life, Saul pushes his artistry even further. The album is a rich tapestry of histories, frequencies, and what Saul calls "unfinished revolutions”. Rejecting conventional studio norms, Saul treats the human voice as the primary instrument to redefine what music can be.

The project reunites Saul with longtime collaborator Carlos Niño alongside a heavy-hitting guest list, including Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Kamasi Washington, Moor Mother, Gonjasufi, Georgia Anne Muldrow and more.
