Breaking And Entering: Carla dal Forno On Her New Record 'Confession' And The Stillness Of Castlemaine

Australian singer-songwriter Carla dal Forno joins Lauren and Simon to discuss the release of her exciting fourth solo album, Confession, released on her own label, Kallista Records. This new record blends notes of post-punk and dream pop with introspective lyrics that unravel details of a complex relationship.

The Castlemaine local delves into her inspirations behind the record and the shift that she felt when moving to a small town from a bustling city, even going as far to record her latest album in a disused hospital in Castlemaine. On moving to a small town, she recounts reconnecting with nature and enjoying her own company.

“I like writing songs that talk about the relationship with nature and it can be so multifaceted. It can be a place of nurture and self-awareness and also danger and excitement.”

She also discusses her beginnings in fine art and painting, and shares her favourite painter, Victorian artist Clarice Beckett, whose work has been a strong influence in the themes Carla explores in her own music practice.

“It’s about mood and atmosphere and stillness in her work, and I connect with that. I feel like that’s a similar motivation or ambition for me and what I want to create sonically.”

Confession is out now.

Catch Carla dal Forno Saturday, 25 April at The Bridge Hotel, Castlemaine.
