Bron, Anth and Rex are paddling the Marinara SUP today.
Up first, we review the upcoming Queenscliff Maritime Festival and what's in store for all you wet 'n salties!
One of the greatest enigmas of Victoria's gold rushes era was the loss of the ship Madagascar in 1853. Loaded with two tons of gold, a crew of 50 and 110 passengers the vessel departed Melbourne in August 1853 bound for London. However, the vessel failed to arrive with speculation of piracy amongst criminals acting as crew. Deathbed confessions pointed towards this, but did it sink off King Island in Bass Strait as some people think. Hear Rex talk about this mystery that never fails to make headlines whenever the story appears in the media.
It's time for a catch up with our UK Correspondent, Dr Bryce Stewart from the Marine Biological Association of the UK especially to check in on the ëxploding" octopus numbers in the SW of England recently. What happened? What did it mean for the other marine biota? How about fisheries? Why did it happen? Bryce will join us live late on his Saturday night to chat about all this and more.
Finally, we speak with Dave Klaiber, Director of brand new documentary ‘True South’ which launches on 5 March. ‘True South’ marks 80 years of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race - filmed 25 years after its darkest chapter in 1998, when six sailors lost their lives, it presents a deeply human story of family, grief, endurance and friendship.
