Ahead of her first ever Australian tour, legendary Japanese folk singer Sachiko Kanenobu, and her touring pianist Jordan Burgis, join Sam to chat about Sachiko's extraordinary career dating back to the 60s.
Widely regarded as Japan's first female folk singer, Sachiko Kanenobu released her debut album Misora in 1972 at age 22, which has since become an enduring cult classic.
Listen back to hear stories about the making of Misora, Sachiko's subsequent move to California in the 70s and how science fiction writer Phillip K. Dick encouraged her to start making music again after a signifigant break.
Sachiko Kanenobu plays her first ever Melbourne show at the Northcote Social Club on Friday February 13th 2026, with support from Guy Blackman, who was responsible for a 2006 re-issue of Misora on Chapter Music.
