Neon Sunset: Jeffrey Wegener on the Young Charlatans Era Defining Dynamic

Melbourne 1978- In less than a year, and only 13 live shows before disbanding, The Young Charlatans harnessed the magic of the fledgling post punk era. In combining their 4 individual tastes of Krautrock, glam, jazz and freakbeat, Ollie Olsen, Rowland S Howard, Janine Hall and Jeffrey Wegener carved new ground for the Australian underground that would build empires. This short life profoundly influenced much to come, and members went on to form and join some of Australia’s most iconic bands; Boys Next Door, Whirlywirld, The Saints, Laughing Clowns etal.

Listen as last surviving member of the band Jeffrey Wegener shares anecdotes of the era that punk was born, how the band got together and so much more in celebration of the new and only release of previously lost demos and live recordings of The Young Charlatans’ work on Eminent Vinyl.
