Future Perfect: The Future Of Australia’s Alliance With The US

Dylan Bird is joined by Dr Emma Shortis, Director of the Australia Institute's International & Security Affairs Program and author of recent essay After America: Australia and the new world order, to break down the state of Australia’s relationship with the United States ahead of Anthony Albanese’s upcoming meeting with Donald Trump at G7 amid recent missile strikes from Israel and Iran and questions around whether Australia could exit the AUKUS deal.

“There’s this really unusual political space now in Australia for us to rethink our alliance with the United States, not just around AUKUS but around the alliance more broadly, and bring it back to those fundamental principles of democratic institutions and the rule of law … the Labor government, which has a stonking majority, has the political space to do that now.”
