Last week, the federal government announced sweeping reforms to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, including plans to move autistic children off the scheme from next year. Dylan Bird is joined by educator and author Clem Bastow and disability advocate El Gibbs to deep dive into the new changes, how the scheme works, their own experiences accessing the NDIS as participants, how crucial it is for people with disability and carers, the consequences for autistic people, and the importance of disability policy being informed by people with lived experience.
“It’s really damaging to just go out and go “right, here’s a huge, big change with no detail and no way for you to have a say and way for you to have an input”. It’s really disrespectful to our community.” – El Gibbs
