Dylan Bird is joined by US singer Shannon Lay ahead of her Australian tour to chat about her musical connections to Australia, her relationship with covers, what it means to her to bring an audience to tears, and also to play a couple of tracks live in-studio – including her cover of Elliott Smith’s 'Angeles'.

Shannon Lay will play at the Brunswick Ballroom in Melbourne this Wednesday, December 3.

“There’s a lot of people who’ve come up to me and said my music makes them emotional, and I think it’s such a beautiful thing about music that it can unlock that part of you that was a little stuck … it’s been a really cool way to delve into my own vulnerability.”
