Breakfasters: The Power of Community Radio on Australian Music
Susan Forde is a media researcher specialising in community, grassroots, and alternative media and journalism forms, and a Professor of Jounalism at Griffith University. She joins Breakfasters to speak about the groundbreaking new report 'Community Radio and Australian Music: Building the Music Media Ecosystem'.
Led by Shane Homan, Associate Professor in Media and Communications at Monash Unversity, the report looks into the significant cultural, social, and economic contribution community radio has on the Australian music industry - across, artists, venues, communities and more.
'The community radio sector contributes about $153 million dollars to the Australian music industries every year, and that is after the investment is accounted for. That is a net contribution.'
Susan shares the research process in identifying the key activities of community radio that impact Australian music, assigning an financial value to the activities, and speaking to example stations in the sector to calculate the figure.
