Zero G: King Hu and the Art of Wuxia with Adrian Danks & Alex Williams
Rob and Megan chat with Adrian Danks (Co-curator & President) and Alex Williams (Committee Member) of the Melbourne Cinémathèque about their upcoming Wuxia season at CTEQ, celebrating the genre’s rich history and the visionary work of King Hu.
Wuxia — literally “martial arts and chivalry” — is a genre of Chinese cinema known for its heroic warriors, gravity-defying swordplay, and poetic storytelling. King Hu redefined wuxia with balletic action, striking realism, and strong female leads. This season features his most influential films, including Come Drink With Me (1966), Dragon Inn (1967), and A Touch of Zen (1971).
Dedicated to screening films in their original formats, the Melbourne Cinémathèque also offers in-depth analysis through Senses of Cinema’s CTEQ annotations, available at screenings.
Catch the must-see season for cinephiles and martial arts enthusiasts at the ACMI in Melbourne 12 - 26 February.
