Uncommon Sense: ‘Why You Should Give A F*ck About Farming’ With Gabrielle Chan

Gabrielle Chan joins the program to discuss her new book, Why You Should Give a F*ck About Farming, which presents an in-depth analysis of farming practices and policy in Australia. Gabrielle and host Amy Mullins discuss the short-sightedness of Australia’s approach to land management in the face of the climate crisis, and the adverse effects it will have for food security, domestic manufacturing and national economic independence. Gabrielle emphasises the need to diversify and support a national supply chain in order to improve food security and resilience, and why this can only be achieved through a cross-disciplinary approach to agriculture. "Australia is now a net importer of dairy, so we’re not making as much dairy as we used to, and I think that’s another question we need to think about", Gabrielle says.

Gabrielle also sheds light on the success of regenerative agricultural practices, which prioritise improving the landscape across multiple axes.
