The Distant Sky: Not Drowning, Waving Celebrate Tabaran’s 35th Anniversary

David Bridie from Australian group Not Drowning, Waving joins Kate Kingsmill on The Distant Sky to discuss the 35th anniversary of the band's fifth record Tabaran.

Tabaran was released in 1990 in collaboration with Papau New Guinean musician Sir George Telek and a variety of musicians who resided in or near Rabaul on the northwest tip of New Britain island.

2025 not only marks the album’s 35th anniversary but also Papau New Guinea’s 50th anniversary of independence from Australia. In recognition of both of these milestones, the group and Sir George will perform songs from the album at Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday 20 September.

David Bridie is also playing a slew of live shows throughout late 2025, with more information available on his website.
