The Australian Mood: Jim Moginie On Thunk And The Importance Of Physical Albums

Neil Rogers is joined by Australian music legend Jim Moginie of Midnight Oil as they discuss Jim’s new album Thunk with his band Jim Moginie & The Family Dog.

The pair reminisces on the recent passing of Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst and his legacy and impact on Jim’s music going forward. They also unpack the band's ‘80s and surf rock influences and ‘finding a voice’ on their new album.

Jim also discusses the band’s decision to only sell physical copies of the album and their aversion to streaming services, especially for smaller musicians who struggle to make money from streams.

"If you really love a band, go and buy the physical product because bands at a certain level will only earn anything if you buy the record, the cassette, or the CD."

Thunk is out now only on vinyl, cassette and CD.

Catch Jim Moginie & The Family Dog on Friday 13 March at Brunswick Ballroom.
