Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson of Californian noise-rap trio Clipping join Tyler Bain ahead of their Australian tour, talking Dead Channel Sky and the strange paths a band can take when one member becomes a Broadway phenomenon.
Snipes and Hutson reflect on making a record built on drum machines, breaks, and a future imagined by late-’90s rave culture. They discuss living with songs intensely before release, only to barely hear them again until they’re played live, and the relief of revisiting older material without embarrassment.
The pair also dive into why Clipping’s live shows are looser and more party-minded than theatrical, touching on Hamiltonwrecking tour plans, Black Thought rapping Clipping lyrics on Fallon, and Conan being as tall as advertised.
Clipping play Northcote Theatre on 10 June.
