Off The Record: Mike Scott on The Waterboys’ New Tour and Dennis Hopper
Mike Scott joins Brian Wise on Off The Record to talk about The Waterboys’ latest album, Life, Death and Dennis Hopper and their upcoming Australian tour.
While a good portion of The Waterboys’ latest record will feature in the set, classics like The Whole of the Moon and Fisherman's Blues remain a joy to perform. “The moment I hit the guitar intro,” Scott says of Fisherman’s Blues, “it’s one of my favourite moments of any show.”
The conversation touches on Scott’s contribution to a tribute album honouring Johnny Thunders, where he completed an unfinished song, “Taking You Up to Avenue D,” drawing on memories of seeing Thunders perform.
And Life, Death and Dennis Hopper takes an ambitious approach, unfolding as a musical biography of Dennis Hopper, tracing the countercultural icon’s path through pivotal moments in post-war pop culture; from Rebel Without a Cause to the rise of pop art and the turbulence of 1960s America.
Part 2 of Brian's conversation with Mike Scott will feature on Sunday April 4's edition of Off the Record.
