Maps: Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor on Groove, Repetition and Prince
Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor drops into MAPS to chat with fill-in presenter Simona Castricum, unpacking how rhythm, repetition, and collaboration shape Hot Chip’s sound - both on record and on stage.
Alexis talks building grooves from wonky, interlocking rhythms and drawing inspiration from Terry Riley and Prince, to Royal Trux and Aphex Twin. Reflecting on the different energy of Hot Chip’s club shows versus festival performances, he explains how the band’s five-piece dynamic has kept them creatively fresh for more than two decades.
With a new LP on the way and a show at the Australian Open, Alexis looks back, briefly, while remaining firmly focused on what's next.
