Maps: Creature of Habit with Courtney Barnett
After a secret gig at the Punter's Club in late 2025, Courtney Barnett joins Fee ahead of the release of her upcoming studio album, Creatures of Habit. The pair delve into the artist's inspirations, secret gigs, and the transition from bustling Melbourne to the deserts of Joshua Tree. They unpack the creative processes and driving forces behind the upcoming album and the central track, Mantis, including Courtney's fascination with Georgia O'Keeffe and an emotional encounter with a praying mantis.
They also talk about collaborations with fellow musicians, Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint and Katie Cructchfield of Waxahatchee.
Courtney also discusses the struggles she faced after releasing her 2021 album Things Take Time, Take Time and the process of falling back in love with writing songs and the electricity of perfoming live, especially after COVID lockdowns.
"Each album is kind of, this document of time and place, in a way."
Courtney Barnett's new album Creature of Habit releases 27 March 2026.
