Indigenuity: Jacqui Wandin on the Legacy of Wurundjeri Leader William Barak

Wurundjeri woman Jacqui Wandin joins Krystal De Napoli to discuss her work-in-progress mini-series on the life and leadership of Wurundjeri civil rights hero William Barak. As the ngurungaeta, or headman, Barak led Wurundjeri people through the hardest moment in their history, fighting against colonisation in the late 19th century.

Wandin is creating a mini-series to educate Australians, teaching history beyond just dates through showcasing his character. Wandin says with the upcoming treaty, now is the time to reflect on historic movements and their leaders.

'We went through the Referendum and now we're going to treaty, and I just want to remind the listeners that there were efforts [being] made back then, and I think we need to be following the footsteps of Barak, our traditional lawman.'
