Future Perfect: The Enduring Influence of Legacy Media & The New Media Landscape
Dylan Bird is joined by Crystal Andrews, Readers’ Editor at Crikey, to discuss her article ‘News Corp isn’t dead. Progressive new media is helping it thrive’, and the huge influence that corporate legacy media continues to exert. The two go into the new names and faces in new media and the impact they may have had on the federal election, the distinction between the form and functions of legacy media and new media and the symbiotic relationship between the two, and Crystal's experience founding digital media outlet Zee Feed.
'The big corporate media players are finding reach and influence on digital platforms just the same as new media players are – but of course they have so many more resources, they’ve got so much more access to the political establishment. I don’t see it as their influence waning, but rather shifting and moving to the spaces where people are increasingly spending their time these days.'
