Future Perfect: Labor’s Proposed Tax Reforms and the Aftermath of the Federal Budget
Dylan Bird is joined by Thomas Walker, economist and CEO of policy thinktank Think Forward. Thomas returns to the show in the aftermath of the federal budget to share his perspective on the suite of tax reforms proposed by the Albanese government, the recent lobbying campaign from the start-up sector arguing that Labor’s plans to wind back the Capital Gains Tax discount are too far-reaching, and other moves the Labor government could make to address broader cost of living pressures.
“It’s a job for younger generations to try and not take on the scare campaign too much and show a bit support for the government, because they have taken a big step here in terms of addressing intergenerational equity… but we also need to see the government using this as a stepping stone to further action on that investment side – education, childcare housing – to actually start really helping younger people right now with the cost of living”
