Baseline: Tish King on Indigenous-Led Climate Justice

Nana is joined on Baseline by Naarm-based climate justice advocate Tishiko (Tish) King, a proud Kulkalaig woman from the Island of Masig in the Kulkalgal Nation of Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait). Tish is the Founder of Just Futures Collab, an Indigenous‑led giving circle that shifts power and resources directly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander climate solutions, supporting frontline leaders to continue caring for Country.

Together, they unpack what Indigenous‑led climate justice truly means, and how the climate crisis continues to displace and most profoundly impact frontline Indigenous communities who have been caretakers of Country for millennia.

Tish shares the immediate challenges facing the Island of Masig — from rising seas to the erosion of land — and how the climate crisis is an extension of ongoing colonialism, contributing to the loss of language and culture. She also breaks down the economics of climate justice, explaining how climate models and funding mechanisms often fail to reach frontline communities, and how everyday people can help build a future where Indigenous-led climate justice is a reality.

Keep up with Tish here.
