Baseline: Pauline Vetuna on Transformative Disability Justice and 3CR's Disability Day
Disability justice advocate and community media maker, Pauline Vetuna, joins Nana Owusu on Baseline to discuss 3CR’s upcoming Disability Day Broadcast. The 12 hour broadcast continues 3CR’s long legacy of promoting the rights of people with disabilities, empowering communities to create their own media and ensuring their voices are heard in a media landscape that centres non-disabled perspectives.
Pauline and Nana discuss the importance of intersectionality and accessibility within activist and disability spaces, how disability media has evolved over the years, and the principles at the heart of disability justice. Pauline also shares insights from her experiences as a Black, queer disability advocate.
“Disability justice is a framework that goes further than what already exists - beyond colonial racism, capitalism, carceral systems, beyond empire. It’s a broader agenda for change that recognises that all people are deserving of life and having their needs met. To make that a reality, we must radically challenge and transform the roots of oppression.”
3CR's Disability Day broacast is on Wednesday 3 December from 7am - 7.30pm. Find out more about the broadcast and this year's theme ‘RIGHT RELATIONS & INNOVATIONS' here.
