Banksia: ZIPPORAH on Debut EP Naungu Urui and single Some Typa Way

Artist ZIPPORAH joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to discuss debut EP NAUNGU URUI featuring latest single SOME TYPA WAY.

Blending R&B, soul and jazz, ZIPPORAH spoke about working with with producer Finbar Stuart and producer and composer Nikodimos through the developing of the EP.

She also discussed the meaning of the EP's name NAUNGU URUI which when translated to her grandmother’s language, Kalaw Kawaw Ya, means bird, or songbird. As well asg rowing up and spending time in greenrooms and rehersal spaces with her mother, Christine Anu, eventually leading to performing alongside her in music.

As a proud Samu and Suy woman from Saibai Island in the Torres Strait, ZIPPORAH uses her heritage to build a career that keeps her culture front of mind, with this debut EP release incorporating lauguage, sounds and traditional instruments from the Torres Strait.
