Blak artist and storyteller WAARI joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to catch up on new music since releasing EP release MUKI in 2024 and their creative practice in printmaking.

WAARI spoke about the meanings behind two new singles Our Blood and The Light from upcoming album Kiangu Ngalhika which means we are the same (in age) planned for release in September.

With work that moves through print and sound as ways of holding memory, carrying country and speaking back to the conditions of now, WAARI also spoke about their creative practice in printmaking and first solo exhibition UMAAKA at Watch This Space in Mparntwe (Alice Springs).

WAARI is of Waanyi and Kalku-toongu descent from so-called Queensland, and of the Ngāti Mutunga, Ngāti Manu and Te Ātiawa from the north island Aotearoa.
