Banksia: Shanaya Sheridan on exhibition JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live at KHT

Shanaya Sheridan joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to talk about the JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live major solo retrospective exhibition of artworks by the her partner and late Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta and Barkindji artist Josh Muir (1991 – 2022) at Koorie Heritage Trust.

Shanaya reflected on themes Josh would often explore through his works including cultural identity, the impacts and legacies of colonisation, mental health, personal loss and grief.

The pair also reflected on the art legacy of Josh which includes being recipient of the Youth and People’s Choice Award in the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) in 2015, having his work selected for the Melbourne Art Trams in 2017 and an animated projection on the facade of the NGV for White Night Melbourne 2016.

Shanaya co-curates the exhibition with Josh’s mother Justine Berg which is a special celebration of Josh and includes 96 works of his.

The exhibition will be travelling regionally after the Koorie Heritage Trust showing.

JXSH MVIR: Forever I Live is at Koorie Heritage Trust until 14 July
