Banksia: Nicholas Galanin on Neon Anthem at Dark Mofo
Multi-disciplinary artist and musician Nicholas Galanin from Sitka Tribe of Alaska of Tlingit and Unangax̂ descent joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to discuss Neon Athem presented at Dark Mofo.
Providing space for mourning, protest, and catharsis, freedoms and safety for people and lands subjected to sytemic violence, and to protest continuing oppression. This iteration of Neon Anthem embarks on an international response to deaths in custody of Indigneous people globally.
The pair also spoke about the works Never Forget which presents a replica of the Hollywood Sign stating Indian Land. This work asks settler landowners to participate in the work by transferring land titles and management to local Indigenous communities.
As well as White Flag where a polar bear hide is presented as a white flag and reflects the state of the Arctic and the vast global effects of human driven climate change on all life.
