Banksia: Maree Clarke and Kimba Thompson on exhibition Future River: When the past flows

Artist Maree Clarke and Director and Founder of Blak Dot Gallery Kimba Thompson joined Vanessa Morris to talk all about new exhibition Future River: When the past flows as part of the International Festival of Photography PHOTO 2024 at Counihan Gallery in Brunswick.

Curated by Kimba Thompson (Wiradjuri), the exhibition features works from Maree Clarke (Yorta Yorta / Wamba Wamba / Mutti Mutti / Boonwurrung), Julie Gough (Trawlwoolway), Peta Clancy (Bangerang) and Jody Haines (Palawa).

Maree reflected on a canoe created with her great nephew Mitch Mahoney and husband Nicholas Hovington, which is featured in the exhibition space and accompanied by visuals of her nieces and nephews with the canoe on Country.

A public program will be hosted throughout March including:

Blak Dot Artists Market at the Sydney Road Street Party on Sunday 3 March, 2024 from 12pm - 6pm

FUTURE RIVER: International Women's Day on 8 March from 6pm - 8:30pm at Counihan Gallery

Artist Talks and Readings on 16 March from 2pm at Counihan Gallery
