Banksia: Jarra Karalinar Steel on Blak Pixels Exhibition
Boonwurrung, Wemba Wemba and Trawlwoolway multidisciplinary artist Jarra Karalinar Steel joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to chat about Blak Pixels exhibition at Blak Dot.
Curated by Jarra, Blak Pixels brings together artists working across game development, animation, illustration and screen-based media featuring work from Blaktasia, ENOKi, Molly Hunt, Jay Kulbardi, April Phillips and DESIRAI Saunders
Celebrating the breadth of contemporary First Peoples digital art practice, the exhibition foregrounds how Indigenous artists are shaping digital spaces through storytelling, experimentation and shared cultural expression.
The pair also spoke about Jarra's work which explores Blak Futurism, identity and future folklore through bold visual storytelling across public and digital spaces. And Jarra's recent Galang Artist Residency in Paris at the Cité internationale des arts.
Blak Pixels closes on Sunday 18 October at Blak Dot Gallery
