First Nations hip-hop artist Hope of Status Krew from Vancouver in Northern Turtle Islander (Canada) joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to discusses latest singles Less is More and Who Am I.
Using storytelling and rhyme to depict life on the reservation and what it is to be Indigenous, Hope spoke about working with producer Sythe in the formation of these two singles which explore personal experiences and have been a therapeutic through storytelling.
He also spoke about their album release Red Man which explores hidden truths and the impacts of colonisation.
The pair also discussed the foundations and origins of Indigenous hip-hop in Canada and how it differs from hip-hop broadly.
