Banksia: Dena Curtis On Rebel With A Cause Documentary Series

First Nations filmmaker, writer, director and producer Dena Curtis joined Vanessa Morris on Banksia to talk about the Rebel With A Cause documentary series which premiered at MIFF and tells the stories of four First Nations trailblazers from Queensland.

Featured in the series are Senator Neville Bonner, the first Indigenous person elected to Parliament; former teacher and barrister, Pat O’Shane, a Kuku Yalanji woman who became Australia’s first Aboriginal magistrate; Birri Gubba Gungalu radio host Tiga Bayles who presented Radio Redfern, established the Brisbane Indigenous Media Association and the National Indigenous Radio Service; and Noonuccal poet, conservationist and activist Oodgeroo Noonuccal (Kath Walker) who was the first Aboriginal person to publish a book of verse.
