Emerging multidisciplinary artist Axel Garay joins Vanessa Morris on Banksia to discuss exploring the algorithmic age through immersive exhibition Intercessions.

Intercessions draws together a suite of multimedia works to consider how the ‘algorithmic age’ is affecting our ability to truly immerse deeply with our world, materials and selves. It features a range of works including a series of cameraless cyanotype photographs accompanied by an original soundscape by cellist Thomas Veitch.

He also has an exhibition Ama Algorithmus (Mother Algorithm) opening at Counihan Gallery. It's a photo-media and audiovisual installation that explores the mysticism and beliefs surrounding algorithmic technology and the unseen influence of digital systems in contemporary life.

Axel has strong connections to his ancestral homelands in the Eastern Torres Strait of the Meriam peoples, Puerto Rico & Malaysia.
