Zamrock legends WITCH are about to release Zango - their first album in 40 years. The band’s leader Emmanuel ‘Jagari’ Chanda dials into Double Bounce live from Zambia to talk to Vaughan about the group’s extraordinary history. WITCH founded the Zamrock movement in their home country: mixing African rhythms with heavy psychedelic rock, blues, funk and garage they pioneered a sound which would reverberate for generations. Jagari talks to VQ about the band’s origin story, and how they came upon the acronym that formed their name: We Intend To Cause Havoc. He also recalls the band’s infamous live shows, what it was like playing during the political upheaval of the 70s and 80s, and collaborating with Sampa The Great.
