Breakfasters: Jeff Sparrow On His New Book ‘Crimes Against Nature’
Writer, journalist, lecturer, and former Breakfaster Jeff Sparrow discusses the release of his new book 'Crimes Against Nature: Capitalism And Global Heating', which puts critical pressure on the idea that individual humans are by default environmentally destructive. Jeff proposes that this is a false narrative, and explains how it has been peddled by corporations as a way to shirk responsibility. In particular, he shows how language such as the phrase "litter bug" has been used to redirect culpability to the individual through regular, intersubjective shaming practices, which shifts attention away from the company that produces the environmentally destructive packaging in the first place.
