Joining us in the Triple R Performance Space in April are:
First up, we're celebrating 10 years of Double Bounce on the Triple R airwaves! Join us on Tuesday 7 April for a special broadcast of Vaughan Quinn's beloved Tuesday drive show. Double Bounce has been a home for curious, adventurous new music since 2016. To mark a decade on air, we're broadcasting live with a stacked lineup of performances.
Bhairavi Raman & Nanthesh Sivarajah will start the party. The Melbourne duo blend Carnatic and Western classical traditions through violin and mridangam, with their debut full-length Syncretic out now on Efficient Space.
Hedge Burners follow, a four-piece featuring members of Dick Diver, Boomgates, Stiff Richards and Split System. Their debut album Fall Out of the Future is also freshly released on Legless Records.
And Tongue Dissolver will close out the show. The band - featuring Ruby Lee, Andrew Huhtanen McEwan and Aldo Thomas - make noisy, rave-inflected punk, and are one of the most intense and impressive live acts going around. Tune in for a special birthday mix from VQ too!
Then, join us Thursday 9 April for a very special Live at RRR, as Steve Cross of Beat Orgy hosts seminal swamp-rockers The Scientists. Led by Kim Salmon, the band’s raw sound anticipated everything from Mudhoney to Spacemen 3, and they remain one of rock's most uncompromising forces. They'll be joined on stage by members of Kim Salmon & the Surrealists, giving us a preview of what’s to come at their upcoming Surreal Science show - which sees all members of The Scientists and The Surrealists join forces for a special gig at The Corner Hotel.
On Friday 17 April, Melbourne ten-piece Black Jesus eXperience bring their irresistible combination of Ethiopian song, jazz, hip hop and funk to the Triple R Performance Space, hosted by Shambe Olweny-Pu of Opium Audia.
Led by Addis Ababa-born vocalist Enushu Taye and Zimbabwean MC Mr Monk, BJX draw on a deep well of collaborators and traditions. Their catalogue includes two albums with Ethio-Jazz pioneer Mulatu Astatke, alongside appearances at Glastonbury, WOMAD, Golden Plains and beyond. Their latest album Time Telling is out now on Agogo Records.
Finally, come along on Friday 24 April for a special set from Palm Springs, hosted by Yasmine Sharaf of Cease and Desist.
The outsider folk project of Erica Dunn - also of Tropical Fuck Storm, MOD CON and Fiancée - Palm Springs distils songs to their essence with nylon string guitar and voice. They'll be playing songs from their latest album Turning Yr Back On The Dolphin, seven years of reflection on existence, wonder and letting go, recorded direct to tape over three days by Michael Beach.
We can't wait to share these incredible shows with you – and the only way for you to be apart of it is by subscribing, of course!
