'90s indie legends The Cat’s Miaow are excited to launch their new album When You Smiled and Turned Away' at the Retreat Hotel, Brunswick.

This is their first album of new songs in over 30 years, and contains more of the concise, understated pop songs we’ve come to expect from them. The album is released locally on Lost and Lonesome and in the US on Slumberland.

Special guests for this event are The Motifs and The Zebras, both of whom have a large catalogue of wonderful pop songs of their own. This is set to be a lovely afternoon.

Known in hallowed circles for their perfectly unadorned nuggets of gentle pop mastery, put to 4-track tape in Melbourne and drip-fed to the world a few decades back via 7” singles, cassettes and compilation appearances, The Cat’s Miaow maintained their mystique by appearing live on precious few occasions – famously, their entire gig itinerary could be recounted on one hand, or thereabouts.

With the recent renewed interest in their back catalogue, thanks largely to a pair of compilation albums on World of Echo, The Cat’s Miaow were inspired to regroup to play some shows and begin working on new material.
