GuriNgai sisters Charlie and Miri from Live Looping act Charlie Needs Braces have drawn in audiences across Australia, their energetic musical landscapes weaving together stories and language. In 2022 they came first place in the Upstart Awards, and won the Archie Roach Award for Emerging Talent in 2023 through Music Victoria Awards. 

The two piece have performed across Australia at several festivals including the Share the Spirit Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, Burramatta Festival, St Kilda Festival, Queenscliffe Music Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival, the National Folk Festival, Planting Festival, Wandiligong Nut Festival, The Town Folk Festival, Clarence Jazz Festival, supported The Teskey Brothers on their national tour with A Day on the Green 2025, and showcased at Folk Alliance International January 2026 New Orleans USA.

That’s all, folks. Meraki are hanging up our rollerskates, solid-state amplifiers and tambourines (pretty sure Peggy lost it at some gig years ago…), ah and who can beat the algorithm these days? Our time as a band has come to an end.

To celebrate the life and love of Meraki, we are doing a goodbye show with some guests on August 8th at bar open and we’d love to see you there. We’re releasing the first and last of our recordings, we’ve made indie-style, with whatever’s been in our houses: second-hand microphones/ blankets and socks as sound absorbers etc.
