Coming to RMIT’s The Capitol, Melbourne on 1 May, ZÖJ (Gelareh Pour and Brian O’Dwyer) reimagines Grass: A Nation’s Battle for Life (1925) with a powerful live score that transforms the landmark silent film into a vivid, contemporary experience.

Grass follows the extraordinary migration of Iran’s Bakhtiari people across brutal terrain, its century-old images still striking in their portrayal of human endurance. Through haunting kamancheh, voice and elemental percussion, ZÖJ breathe new life into the film, creating a deeply immersive encounter where sound and image merge into a meditation on movement, displacement and the bond between people and land.

Presented by Castlemaine Documentary Festival after a sold-out Castlemaine State Festival screening, this is cinema made live—an urgent, collective experience that brings past and present into dialogue.

Tickets available here.
