Uncommon Sense: Professor Emeritus Jürgen Tautz Explains the Sheer Awesomeness of Bees

Hate bees? Toss the bug spray and listen to professor emeritus Jürgen Tautz chat with Amy Mullins about the many things that make these yellow and black critters downright amazing. For example, did you know bees can raise their own body temperature up to 44 degrees (which allowed them to migrate from their native tropics to cooler environments)? We also bet you didn’t know that when bees live in complete darkness they use very slight vibrations on their hive's comb structure to send messages to one another. That’s just two of several amazing things Jürgen discusses, and just two of several reasons we humans should be treating bees which a lot more respect. Jürgen’s new book, The Honey Factory (co-written with Diedrich Steen) is out now.
