The Score: What Does Burnout in the Arts Industry Look Like?

Samira Farah is joined by academic Dr Kate Power (University of Queensland) for a chat about the challenges facing artists and workers in the creative arts when it comes to burnout in workplaces and in creative spaces.

“Not-for-profit organisations are especially vulnerable for burnout as they often operate on tight budgets with resource constraints and have very high work expectations.

We see these things in the arts of course… we know that people work with a boom-bust flowthrough in their careers.

They work crazy hours for intense periods, and they might take on more than they can handle as they don’t know when their next paycheque may come through….

People in the arts and culture jobs have been going through the ringer for years.”
