The International Pop Underground: Tim Darcy of Montréal Post-Punk Trio Cola is Excited to Be Touring Australia
"This is a guitar-rock post-punk band, that's the DNA of the sound of the albums," says Tim Darcy, frontman of the Montréal-born combo Cola.
Speaking with Anthony Carew on The International Pop Underground in advance of Cola's first Australian tour in June, Darcy shares his excitement with coming to the Southern Hemisphere (once we locate where the equator is), his favourite Australian bands, his musical history in Ought, and his feeling that his 2017 solo record, Saturday Night, is overlooked.
Darcy also details, at length, the making of Cola's brand-new third album, Cost of Living Adjustment, whose topical title doubles as an acronym for the band's name.
"We liked the layers of meaning," says Darcy, of naming Cola's new LP.
"There's Cost of Living Adjustment on a financial level, but also there's adjustment of maturity as one grows older, and acquieses to certain realities of life and contends with them. There's definitely themes of that running through the record."
