Remembering Shlaggers
Cousins Jamie, Terry, and Ben pay tribute to a legendary 3RRR program. Shlaggers, a 1980s show hosted by Robert Nixon dove into The Beatles long before the internet-age. Tracing the band’s story from the very beginning, Shlaggers explored the myths, outtakes and many stories that defined The Fab Four.
Drawing from their personal archive of 40 cassette recordings, Jamie, Terry, and Ben play excerpts from Nixon's earliest episodes, starting with John Lennon’s childhood and following the band through their studio sessions, and John, Paul, George and Ringo's solo years.
Nixon's mix of multiple Abbey Road takes, interviews - including a rare conversation with Yoko Ono - and early insights into the origins of Octopus’s Garden helped to shape a generation of Victorian listeners in their understanding, and mythologisation, The Beatles.
