Literati Glitterati: Anita Heiss On Her Latest Novel 'The Paradise Pact'
On this episode of Literati Glitterati, fill-in host Fi Wright is joined by award-winning Aboriginal author, poet cultural activist and social commentator, Dr Anita Heiss, as they delve into the process of Anita’s most recent novel The Paradise Pact.
The heartwarming novel traverses the richness of sisterhood, friendship, romantic relationships and respect. It follows three Wiradjuri women in their 50s, Abbey, Stevie and Caitlin, on their holiday to Hawai’i. Anita unpacks the research and time that went into writing a story set in Hawai’i, and hightights the shared experiences of First Nations people in Australia and Hawai’i, as they fight for the reclamation of language and sovereignty.
“The Paradise Pact celebrates women in all their phases: mothers, grandmothers, aunties, friends, lovers, runners, travellers and dreamers.”
Anita is a proud Wiradjuri woman and one of Australia's most celebrated authors, publishing across fiction and non-fiction. She is an advocate for Indigenous literacy and has worked in remote communites across Australia, encouraging young Indigenous Australians to write their own stories. Anita's latest novel, The Paradise Pact is available to read now.
