Indigenuity: Stacie Nicholson-Piper Discusses 'Banj Ba Walert', A New Exhibit For YIRRAMBOI
Proud Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung and Ngurai Illum-Murrung woman, Djirri Djirri Dancer and curator for the Victorian Indigenous Research Centre at the State Library Victoria, Stacie Nicholson-Piper joins the team for a chat on Indigenuity. She discusses her brand new exhibit Banj Ba Walert for YIRRAMBOI festival, which launches this week throughout Naarm, running from 2-11 May, and 'platforming expressions of culture, identity, unity and truth through evolutionary and experimantal practices, breaking away from preconceived ideas of First Nations Art'.
The exhibition can be found daily at Federation Square, and seeks to honour the legacy of Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Vicki Nicholson-Brown and explore the tradition of possum skin drums and the creation of water dance.
