We're often told a story about the videogame industry – that it's a multi-billion dollar empire, run by big mega-companies churning out the most succesful entertainment content since cinema.
Author, games-maker and academic Dr Brendan Keogh has a different theory – that videogame making is a cultural practice that is mostly performed in similar conditions to those working in creative fields and the arts.
in his new book The Videogame Industry Does Not Exist, Dr Keogh calls for a cultural intervention on how we talk about videogames and the people who make them.
"The average videogame company is probably five people or less... it has more in common with a garage band than a hollywood studio."
