Interview
Baseline: Sunny Adock on the "Death" of Entertainment Reporting
Nana is joined on Baseline by Sydney-based journalist, culture writer and Head of Editorial at Missing Perspectives, Sunny Adcock, to unpack the state of entertainment reporting.
Sunny breaks down the difference between an entertainer and a journalist, and how shifts in fan culture and influencer media have led to more content creators hosting red carpets. They explore what this shift means for journalists, traditional media and talent operating within an attention economy where clips and virality increasingly determine visibility and value.
Sunny also takes us behind the scenes of press junkets, sharing how she approaches them as a working journalist. Together, they discuss the growing pressure for viral moments in celebrity press cycles and how the clip economy has reshaped rigour, curiosity and depth in conversations about media, pop culture and the arts.
Sunny and Nana reflect on the culture and entertainment landscape in so‑called Australia for Black women and women of colour, and what it means to spotlight the people and platforms already building their own tables and pushing towards a more diverse, cheeky media ecosystem.
