Baseline: Kokoroko Return to Australia

London band Kokoroko join Nana Owusu on Baseline during their latest Aus/NZ tour!

Kokoroko members Sheila Maurice-Grey (trumpet/flugelhorn/vocals), Noushy Nanguy (vocals/trombone), Duane "Hurcs" Atherley (bass) and Tobi Adenaike-Johnson (guitar) discuss the making of their sophomore album, the behind the scenes of their NPR Tiny Desk performance, their relationship with their instruments, the vulnerability of collaboration, the correct way to eat a scone, and so much more.

Kokoroko's sophmore album Tuff Times Never Last is out now via Brownswood Recordings.

"Aiming to signal an air of triumph, victory and celebration in its musicality, the record sees the London band with careless abandon expand their wide-ranging palette and influences. Across the album’s 11 songs, Kokoroko venture in and around 80s Brit-funk, neo-soul, West African disco, bossa nova, lovers rock and funk. Radiating in just over 40 minutes, a universal portrayal of Black diasporic music sounds from decades gone by to the present day."

Keep up with Kokoroko here.
