American-born, England-based soul singer and guitarist, Jalen Ngonda joins Nana on Baseline ahead of his upcoming performance at the Forum Theatre. Jalen shares a curated hour-long soul playlist and discusses his newly released single Doctrine of Love from his forthcoming album of the same name.

Often being compared to defining Motown artists like Marvin Gaye or Mary Wells, Jalen discusses his own musical influences within soul, jazz and Motown and the impact it has had on his sound. The pair also dives into Jalen’s musical origins within the church and how it was used more as an outlet for music than inspiration.

Since the release of his 2023 album Come Around and Love Me, Jalen also shares his experiences performing live, from first shows as a shy emerging artist to finding himself as a musician and becoming more comfortable performing.
