Baseline: Genesis Owusu on His Third Album, Ghana and Defying Genres

Seven-time ARIA Award-winning Ghanaian-Australian musician, Genesis Owusu, sits down with host Nana Owusu (no relation!) for the very first episode of Baseline, to chat through the making of his highly anticipated third album and his recent side quests.

Kicking off with the electrifying track, DEATH CULT ZOMBIE, Genesis reflects on the importance of community – how it infuses his creative process, invigorates his live performances and lets him to counteract the way social media algorithms have polarised relationships.

Canberra-based Genesis also recounts the joys of returning to his homeland, Ghana, and connecting with local creatives and shooting music videos for his latest project. He touches on his intentional approach to releasing music, including why he felt now was right time for another album. Genesis also unpacks why he refuses to let himself or his work be defined by genres.

Genesis Owusu's third album, REDSTAR WU & THE WORLD SCOURGE, is out on May 15. Check out his music here and keep up with him on Instagram.
