Baseline: Chad Camp on Black Superheroes, Third Spaces and Building 'Little Homey'

Nana is joined in-studio on Baseline by Chad Camp, a Naarm-based entrepreneur, event curator and model with South African roots. Chad’s hospitality background and his passion for celebrating the art, culture and music of the African diaspora inspired him to create Little Homey, a café and cultural space woven into the fabric of Brunswick’s creative community. The space hosts a range of events and collaborates with local creatives and businesses, including a Pan-African book club and a men's mental health event called Sewing with the Homies.

They explore the importance of third spaces, the making of Little Homey, Chad’s vision for its future and the role of music of Black origin in shaping the space. They also reflect on the sacredness of places that celebrate Black African cultural expression and the realities and responsibilities of being a Black business owner in Naarm.

They also discuss Black Superheroes 2: Roots & Origins, a group exhibition that celebrates the beauty, strength and resilience of the African community and the everyday heroes who shape it.

Little Homey Café is located at 46 Trafford St, Brunswick VIC 3056. Keep up with them here.
